ULTRAMARINE GROSBEAK

Bird of exuberant coloration and owner of a beauty song, the Ultramarine Grosbeak (Cyanocompsa brissonii) composes, together with the Lesser Seed Finch and Great-Billed Seed Finch, the select group of the singing birds. They meet spread by Southeastern, Center-West and South regions of Brazil and also in Argentina.

It belongs to Frigilidae Family. It is not a very social bird and normally is sighted alone next to the forests and grasslands. In the same way that Lesser Seed Finch, it song varies to one region to another, being marked for several “dialects”.

Its have a blue intense color with the wings extremities darkest and black beak and legs. It measures around 16 cm.

Reproduction:
The male differs externally from the female due the brown color that she presents. The mating time initiated in the end of the spring. The female puts 2 eggs in average and the incubation period is around 13 days. The parents take care of the chicks that will be ready for leave the nest after the 15º day of the birth but are still dependent of its parents.

Maintenance:
Is recommended a birdcage with 60 cm of length, 35 cm of height and 30 cm of width at least. Maintain in localities with fresh air and avoid intense airflow. The nest can be like a bowl with 6 to 8 cm of depth similar to the canaries. Vegetables fibers like sizal, grass and coconut fibers is very useful for the nest. Always clean the water and food bowls, as well the birdcage. A container where it is able to, bathe is very good to.
