BLACK BIRD

Very sociable and companion, the Black Bird (Gnorimopsar chopi) is a very known native bird in Brazil. Also known for Melro, they meet distributed by all Brazil, less in the Amazon region. They reside in closed fields and other forest regions. They are capable of learn some tricks and recognize the members of the family, accepting affections and answering to the calls with its beautiful song. It’s necessary, however, “to be trained” gradually, therefore its can be scared easily and a bigger trauma will be compromise the bird health, becoming fearful.

They reach around 22 cm and in the nature they are seen in groups, dislocating from one side to another.

Reproduction:
This bird does not present external sexual differences. On the18 months of life they are ready to mating. The female lays 2 to 4 eggs and the incubation time is 14 days on average. After around 40 days the chicks are prepared for abandon the nest.

Maintenance:
They shouldn’t be maintained in localities with strong airflow or with excessive circulation of people. Give preference for a large aviary with trees. Provide leaves of palm tree and grass for the nest. Hang also some box type nests with only one opening. Always clean the water and food bowl as well the birdcage and supply a recipient for bath.
