THRUSH

Declaimed in Brazilian music and poetry “My land has palm tree where sings the Thrush...” (Minha terra tem palmeiras onde canta o Sabiá), the Thrush (Turdus sp.) is one of the Brazil’s symbols and enchants to all with its beauty song. They meet spreaded by the Americas and Europe, being that in Brazil to exist around 11 species. Between them the Rufus-bellied Thrush (Turdus rufiventris), the White Thrush (Turdus leucolulus) and the Right Thrush or Cocoa Thrush (Turdus fumigatus). Many others also are called “Thrush” in Brazil, however they not belong to the genus Turdus, as the Sago Palms Thrush (Triclaria cyanogaster), Field Trush (Mimus saturninos) and also the Black Thrush (Platycichla flavipes).

As well as the Lesser Seed- Finch, the songs of the Thrushes is marked for regional variations, in special the songs of the Rufus-bellied Trush. Its song can be heard from September middle, even before daybreak. This song has the function to demarcate territory and to attract females. The Rufus- bellied Trush measures around 25 cm and can live to the 30 years of age. Possess a lightly brown coloration being the ventral region with rust coloration similar to orange. Its beak is yellow and the legs pale brown color. They inhabit forests areas, however they can be found also in big urban centers, in the wooded areas. As well as others animals from Brazilian fauna, the Thrush can only be acquired from bird keepers affiliated to IBAMA (National Environmental Authority) otherwise this becomes a crime environmental.

Reproduction:
Is not possible differentiate the males of the females just for outside characteristics. The couple builds the nest with little twigs, vegetable fibers and clay. The female lays 3 to 4 greenish with little spots eggs on average. The incubation period is around 14 days. The chicks leave the nest after 20 days, however they continue it to be fed by the parents for more a week.

Maintenance:
The Thrush needs a birdcage or appropriate aviary, for that can live well and with health. To birdcage should have at least 100 cm x 45 cm x 50 cm. This should be put in a place that receives sun, however with part shading. It’s important choose a calm place to avoid frighten these birds and to guarantee better conditions to these birds.
