HOGFISH - Bodianus
rufus
Also
known as Bodianus, this fish has the habit of "lying"
on the bottom of the aquarium between rocks and algae or even
burying itself in the sand. This fish is resistant and peaceful.
Another characteristic is that like other fish in the Labridae
family, the Bodianus helps clean other fish such as groupers
and surgeonfishes, removing worms and parasites from their
scales.
It has a relatively short, though hydrodynamic, body. The
dorsal and anal fins have long tips. The mouth has thick lips
found at the far end of the snout.
The upper part of the body to the inferior ocular edge and
the dorsal flipper are dark red with violet reflections. The
rest of the body is yellow. It reaches 35 to 50 cm. in length.
