BLUE-LINED SURGEONFISH
- Acanthurus lineatus
Also
called Barber Fish, these fish of the Acanthuridae family
are known for their colors and characteristic barbs found
on the caudal fin peduncle. These barbs, similar to razor
blades, are a defense against being swallowed by other fish
or birds. When threatened, they activate the barbs, using
them to cut the mouth or other region of the predator and
attempt to escape.
Its body is oval, the upper profile is tall and rounded, the
eyes are on the upper part of the snout, the vertical fins
are long, the color is orange with blue bands, outlined in
black, the abdomen is blue-gray. It reaches up to 20 cm in
length.

and Pacific Oceans.

Environment: Temperature between
24 and 28 ºC, +8 pH, approximately 1023 density,
intense illumination, with various place for the fish
to hide (dwellings).

Behavior: Acclimatization
is easy, frightens frequently. This fish does not tolerate
changes in salinity. Better kept with other fish that
are larger and of another species. Handle with extreme
care.
