ORBICULARIS
BATFISH OR ROUND BATFISH - Platax orbicularis
The
Batfish is very common in several oceans, including the Atlantic.
Its notable characteristic are long dorsal and anal fins,
a brownish coloring that can be lighter or darker depending
on the state of the fish. There can also be a dark brown or
black crosswise stripe that passes by the eye. Reaches up
to 50 cm.
- Origin: Atlantic,
Indian, Western Pacific Oceans and the Red Sea.

Environment: A salt water fish,
however, sometimes they are found near estuaries since
they are capable of tolerating great variations in salinity.
Temperature between 22 and 27 ºC.

Behavior: Calm species with
a peaceful disposition, frightens easily. It is recommended
the few be kept in an aquarium. To escape from predators
they may play dead, to look like a leaf that has fallen
from a tree. They can live up to 14 years in an aquarium.
