SEA PEACOCK - Thalassoma
pavo
When swimming this fish looks like it is "beating its
wings", the torpedo-shaped Peacock decorates the marine
world and aquariums with its colors and agility.
Its body is wide and long. The upper profile from the snout
to the base of the second dorsal fin is strongly convex. The
color is a greenish blue; the center of the scales is red.
The head has blue stripes. The dorsal fin shows a pink band,
followed by a strip of dark brown and black and finally a
bluish-white fringe. The caudal fin is red with bluish-green
bands, the pectoral fins are yellowish-green, with black spots.
The young have different coloration; there are some species
that can be completely yellow, becoming blue or green as adults.
They reach up to 20 cm.
