LIONFISH OR TAILBAR LIONFISH - Pterois radiata
Lionfish
fascinates and beautifies the marine world and aquariums around
the globe. It´s a member of the Scorpaenidae family,
those that belong to the group of fish that have barbs and
poison as well, like the Stonefish.
On the rays of its dorsal fin, it has small pockets that contain
a potent poison used for its defense.
Its body is long with tall and wide fins. The head is a muted
pink, the body is dark brown. Along its sides are 6 slender
shiny white stripes that split on the back. Reaches up to
20 cm.

Ocean.

Environment: Temperature between
24 and 26 ºC, pH 8.2, density of 1027, intense illumination,
rocky bottom. Not recommended to be kept in an aquarium
with smaller fish.

Food:
This is a predator species that feeds on other fish. Can
be fed with Alcon
Gold Oscar Sticks, a special ration for predators.

Behavior: Lionfish
swims well, however, it does not travel long distances
since its preferred habitat is coral reefs and rocky coasts.
One peculiar characteristic is when Lionfish
locates its prey, it opens its pectoral fins wide and
gives chase, corners the prey and then in one gulp swallows
it whole.
