MOORISH
IDOL - Zanclus cornutus
This
species is unmistakable: it has a laterally flattened body,
very long snout with a small mouth at the end. In some species
the dorsal fin is very long and resembles a ribbon. The adults
have a small horn between the eyes explaining the species
name cornutus. The coloring varies between white and yellow
with three large black transversal bands surrounded by blue.
Above the snout there is a dark yellow spot. Reaches up to
25 cm.

Ocean.

Environment: Lives near the
coast in regions of rocky coasts and coral reefs or at
high sea. Aquarium temperature between 23 and 29 ºC,
water pH between 8.2 and 8.6, density between 1020 and
1023, intense illumination and a bottom with plenty of
open space for swimming.

Behavior: A very social species
that does not swim long distances but is accustomed to
moving in pairs or schools.
